Club Policies

The University Club of Washington, DC, is a city club with a diverse membership of professional, business, and government leaders.

The University Club's dress code policy applies to all members and their guests.

The dress code in The Club is business casual, except in the in the Founders' Pub and the John J. Pershing Grille where dress denim is acceptable. A coat jacket is required in the William Howard Taft Dining Room.

Dress denim* is not allowed on the First Floor of the Clubhouse, except when traversing the lobby, main staircase and elevators in order to access the above specified areas.
*Dress Denim must be of a uniform color, clean (e.g., "dirty look" jeans are prohibited), with no rips, tears, fraying or holes.

Exceptions

  • Members and guests staying in The Club’s overnight accommodations are asked to pass through the lobby quickly if in shorts, warm-ups and/or athletic shoes. Non-business casual attire is acceptable only in the Athletic Center or in the Clubhouse on weekends before 6 pm.
  • Dress denim jeans of a uniform color are permitted in the Pershing Grille and Founders' Pub.
  • If you plan to visit The Club only to use the Athletic Center and you are not dressed in accordance with the Dress Code, a convenient Casual Entrance is located at the rear of the Clubhouse.
Individual gratuities or rewards to Club employees are not required or considered necessary.

Use of cell phones is limited to the following areas:

  • First Floor Designated Telephone Area
  • Second Floor Lobby
  • Third Floor Business Center
  • Private Rooms
  • Overnight Guest Rooms
 

All cell phones and other electronic devices must be set to silent mode in the Clubhouse.

The telephones in The Club are provided for the convenience of all members and guests and not for the conduct of lengthy business conversations.

The Business Center is available for computers, faxes, phones, copies, and meetings.

Use of laptop computers, tablets, and other mobile devices is restricted to the Keefer Memorial Library on the first floor, the Business Center on the third floor, and the Racquet and Sports Lounge in the lower level.

When laptop computers are used in the library all noise making capabilities must be turned off, so that their use is silent.

The Business Center is available for computers, faxes, phones, copies, and meetings.

Briefcases, attache cases, and files may be checked.

Members and guests are prohibited from the production of business papers and use of laptop computers in the public rooms including the Taft Dining Room, Pershing Grille, and Founders' Pub.

Car & Limousine Service

The Front Desk at [email protected] is happy to hail a cab for you upon your departure from The Club. The Front Desk can arrange limousine service for members and their guests as well.

Laundry & Dry Cleaning

Laundry and dry cleaning services are available upon request through the Front Desk.
